There are many who still believe in the healing properties of water. It has the ability to flush out a number of toxins from the body, and still cannot be replaced as an essential means of sustenance. It should only follow, therefore, that the diabetics staple soda, caffeinated or alcoholic drinks should be replaced with the base element of human survival: water. Since it has no sodium, no calories and helps break down the sugar in the body, drinking water is most definitely the best choice of hydration not just for diabetics, but for all. It is also a good way to counter the effects of alcohol, replacing lost fluids and getting the drinker back into sobriety. The daily recommended amount of drinking water is eight glasses a day.

Pure water, as opposed to that which is artificially sweetened, should be the daily drink of any diabetic, considering the formers capabilities of dehydration without any known downsides. Although artificially sweetened water contains sugars which the diabetic body is already having a hard time breaking down.

Recent studies, though, have shown that there are several other impurities found in bottled and tap water and as such, it would do the diabetic well to make sure that what he is drinking is indeed from a pure and reliable source.
